Respect My rights

Every year Write for Rights makes a real difference to people’s lives around the world. The attention you generate ensures that people standing up for justice and change in their countries can continue their work - with a whole world of support behind them.

We’ve never been more connected and our voices have never been more threatening to those who abuse power and trample on the rights of individuals. Whether it’s writing letters, SMS actions, street art, light projections or photo messages, we want to hear how you are shining a light on human rights abuses as part of Write for Rights 2012!

Upload your pictures, video or write a story about your experiences. Show the world what young people are doing to defend the rights of individuals! We will be featuring your inspiring stories, pictures, drawings and actions on Facebook and Twitter and with youth in more than 70 countries.

Did you know?

Today Write for Rights - also known as the Letter Writing Marathon - is the world's biggest human rights event. It started small 11 years ago when a boy met a girl with a bright idea at a festival in Poland. Over the years, countless individuals faced with human rights violations have drawn strength from the messages of solidarity they receive from people like you. Your words have pushed governments to release prisoners of conscience and prevented violations taking place against communities at risk.

In 2011 hundreds of thousands of activists in 78 countries wrote over 1.3 million appeal letters during the event.
